Observing axions through photon ring dimming of black holes

چکیده

It is known that magnetic fields exist near black holes and photons can go around due to strong gravity. Utilizing these facts, we probe hypothetical pseudoscalar particles, so-called axions. In fact, be converted into axions when they propagate in a field. The conversion of such leads dimming the photon ring hole shadow. We show occur efficiently for supermassive holes. Remarkably, it turns out maximal rate 25%. case M87*, 10% will observed X-ray gamma-ray bands if angular resolution $10^{-5}$ arcsec achieved. frequency band magnitude depend on axion-photon coupling axion mass. Hence, distorted spectrum provides novel tool detecting

Axionic Black Holes from Massive Axions

A black hole may carry axionic charge in a theory which has gravity coupled to a massless two-form Kalb-Ramond field. We show that this effect persists if the axion has a topological mass term coupling the Kalb-Ramond potential to a U(1) gauge field. Such mass terms arise in the low-energy effective theory of the string. Bitnet addresses: tjallen@suhep, bowick@suhep, lahiri@suhep.

Observing the First Stars and Black Holes

The high sensitivity of JWST will open a new window on the end of the cosmological dark ages. Small stellar clusters, with a stellar mass of several ×10M⊙, and low-mass black holes (BHs), with a mass of several ×10M⊙ should be directly detectable out to redshift z = 10, and individual supernovae (SNe) and gamma ray burst GRB afterglows are bright enough to be visible beyond this redshift. Dense...

Observing the effects of the event horizon in black holes

The key difference between neutron stars and black holes is the presence/absence of a solid surface. Recent attempts to detect this difference have concentrated on the quiescent luminosity, but here these sources are faint and difficult to observe. Instead we look at these sources when they are bright, and show that there is a clear difference between black holes and neutron stars in the evolut...

Observing Gravitational Waves from the First Generation of Black Holes

The properties of the first generation of black-hole seeds trace and distinguish different models of formation of cosmic structures in the high-redshift universe. The observational challenge lies in identifying black holes in the mass range ∼ 100 − 1000M⊙ at redshift z ∼ 10. Here we show that future groundbased laser interferometers could observe gravitational waves produced by the coalescence ...

Size of Black Holes through Polymer Scaling

We imagine the strings on the strectched horizon of any d space-time dimensional black hole to be bits of polymer. Then, proposing an interaction between these bits we obtain the size of the configuration, and thus of the black hole, using the scaling laws. The transition from a typical black hole state to a typical string state has a simple explanation, which also holds for the extremal black ...
